In the place of birth entry field of a person's profile, type in a name. Two things happen:
1. The autocomplete doesn't work
2. The data entered doesn't save.
It has been this way, off and on, since time immemorial.

The simple text field depends on Google Map's records on the place you are looking for,
Just click Location Details and fill in the fields manually because Google Map would never return historical names which most profiles would contain.
Thanks Bjorn,
I am aware that I can fill in the fields manually by expanding the details, and that this saves. But shouldn't the default behavior be to save whatever I enter in the main field? This really is a pain when I copy and paste birth location info from records.
Also, the autocomplete doesn't work even with modern, well-known places. It simply doesn't even try to autocomplete most of the time.
My problem is similar. I enter Utah Territory or any number of versions of Utah in 1850 and GENI changes the place to United States or another erroneous place. hint: Utah wasn't a state in 1850 rewriting history doesn't clarify the past.
