Hello. I really hope someone answers this quick, I'm very angry right now. First of all, I uploaded a picture a few years ago and forgot all about this website. Today I decided to Google my name and I see that an actual picture of ME came up. So I went back to Geni and deleted the photo. I Googled my name again, but the photo was still there, under the URL of Geni. I saw that someone else had asked a similar question to this, and an administrator told them that when Google went through Geni's information again the photo would not be there. That's dandy and everything, but the administrator also said Geni does not control when Google goes through Geni's website. If they do not go through it for a long time, or ever even, my picture will stay in the Google search. It's not only this that has me upset with Geni. I changed my name to a fake name on here, but when I search my REAL name on Geni, my fake profile comes up. I don't understand why there is a tie to THIS profile after I have changed my name. Also, all of my settings are private. So, to put it simply, my picture comes up on Google search after I deleted it. Searching my real name on Geni, brings up the profile I used to have my real name on. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM SOON.

Dan Cornett A couple of things:
One additional thing you can do (if you haven't done so already) is to change your Geni profile privacy settings (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/profile_privacy) -- by default, your photo and your "About" are "public" (visible). Be sure to "save" after changing them. That many be why your photo shows up.
Secondly: The Geni staff person was absolutely correct: Once Google ... or any other search engine, including the "Wayback Machine" ... gets a hold of a "public" web page -- or pictures --, they (Geni) have no control over what that other site does with the page nor how long it is retained in any search indexes or caches.
That is true for the Internet ... it is not anything specific to Geni.com. It's no "fault" on Geni's part.
You could also ask Google to delete the image, if you can find the right place to "report" it.

Jeff, Geni Curator Another thing you could do is check your permissions (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/permissions/) and uncheck the option "Let the public search for me (profile privacy settings apply)".
As Dan stated, Geni has no control over Google caching or when they re-crawl a page. However, if you don't want to wait for Google to replace it automatically in their normal cycle, you can put in a request for Google to remove the cached version of your page. https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1663691 I've never done it, so I don't know how well it works and how complicated it is.

Pia Therese Bakke I have the same problem, photos are still showing up in Google search after privacy settings have been changed. 2 years ago I changed to private, still pics are turning up in Google searches.
Today I deleted all photos after an angry phonecall from my mom. How long will it take before deleted pics are removed from search? This is what Google says:
If you want an image removed from Google's search results, it's important to bear a couple of points in mind.
- Google doesn't own the web, and can't remove content from the web.
- The images in Google’s search results are controlled by the webmasters of the sites that hosts those images.
If you don't own the site on which the image appears, you should ask the webmaster to remove the image or block it from search engines
Who on Geni can help me with this?

Tiffany Biscuits Hello members,
I have the same problem going on. I have a couple of pictures that i have found on google search and it is disturbing that they are out there. I have contacted the host websites to remove those picture and gave google more than 24 hours time to pick up the new results. However despite this, the pictures are still there. I have done some research and even used the "image removal request" option on the support section of google. Some links to the image were accepted and some were denied. I am not sure what i am doing is wrong. I do know that the host websites have removed those images. I dont know what to do. This is creating some very bumpy moments in my personal life as this has become a personal reputation issue.
I really hope a genius over here can help me or guide me...?
Thank you Geni

Jeff, Geni Curator Jasur, there is nothing more that can be done on Geni.com. However, I have submitted your profile page to Google to have them update their cache and remove the picture, status is currently "pending". Here is where you can request such action from Google: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals?hl=en
