I have done a lot of changes in my Legacy database since I uploaded my Gedcom file. Can I do a reload of a new file? What are the consequences?

Jeff, Geni Curator Sorry, no - Geni currently no longer supports GEDCOM uploads due to the massive duplication it creates. Even when it did, it didn't have the ability to deal with re-uploads. They do have it on their development track to support GEDCOM uploads, but they're developing the software to do it smartly, where it only adds new content to Geni. One thing that you could do is upload your GEDCOM to MyHeritage, then you could see the differences between your trees once they identify as matches (such as your MyHeritage tree would show as a match on Geni, but adding new data or a spouse), but you'd still have to update it manually.

Debra Hyndman Then Geni is useless to me as to others until someone builds software that can pick out and integrate duplicates on the world tree. Someone will do it some day. I guess until then there is a whole lot of data that will remain missing from the world tree. Perhaps it is worth investment in this software development as it is the only way that a lot of that data will ever meet the world tree. There are probably thousands of us who have done years of research who simply would not have the time or will to duplicate all of that work, person by person. OMG how long would that take?!

Jeff, Geni Curator There is the Smart Copy option if you're a Geni Pro member and have a Family Tree on MyHeritage or Ancestry. Or you could upload to MyHeritage and then copy it over Family by Family. http://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783

Paul Philippe ANGLADE What's the status of GENI completing the software update to upload GEDCOM files without creating duplicates?

Jeff, Geni Curator Not heard any updates - I expect they're focused on migrating away from Adobe Flash.
