My wife has two fathers and two mothers: the natural ones (Korean) and the father and mother who raised her in The Netherlands since she was 2 years old. How can I add both families into the tree?

Jeff, Geni Curator Currently, Geni doesn't support adopted parents to the dismay of many of us who have requested this feature. In fact, it's the number one feature request but there must be some major technical challenges. In any case, I suggest you log your support of this feature here: http://help.geni.com/entries/427332-support-for-adoptive-parents
Now, here is what you can do, but it's a bit tricky and you may need the help of a pro member (feel free to message me in Geni if you want). Create one of the secondary parents as a sibling then disconnect them from the tree (relationships, select parents, remove - requires PRO membership). Then you'll have the parent floating by themselves, add spouse. Now select the profile of the child, select "Move" from the tree view, click back over to the other parents (another browser tab) and refresh, which should show the child profile floating. Drag it onto one of the parents and select that this is their child. Now the profile will be connected to both parents, but a little warning triangle will be visible on the child's profile. Another option would be to create a secondary child profile connected to the other parents, and then initiate a merge of the child, but don't merge. Then you can flip back and forth between the two and build the tree as needed that way. Either way, it's sort of sucky. Fix it Geni. :)

Jeff, Geni Curator Another option that might allow you to more easily work on both trees, but not accurate, would be to "Partner" the adopted Father with the biological mother and make them the parents. Then add the adopted mother as a wife of the adopted father, and add the biological father as a husband to the biological mother. Then you would have all four parents there, even though the direct parents would be a mix.

Rob van Aurich I have used the "spouse"-trick, but it doesn't look very nice. In the tree of the adopting family now is mentioned that the adopted sister is a spouse of the sister, or something stupiod like that. The other two ways of adding a second pair of parents didn't succeed because I don't have a PRO membership. And I'm not a pro, just an amateur. I hope GENi will soon implement the possibility of adding natural parents and adopting parents. And will help me than to erase the spouse and put the tree of the new family onto the real wife I married. Because the grandfathers and grandmothers of our children all four really act like their grandchildren are theirs, and my wife has bears the familyname of the adoptive parents.
