Other info appearing in my tree?

Hi Everyone,
I am really confused and trying to get clearer on who REALLY can add something to my tree.

I have built my tree for a few years, just for my and my family's info, and invited a few family members but I've never seen where they changed or added anything.
Then recently, I "merged" with a cousin, and his info is WAY TOO MUCH for me. I am trying to keep MY TREE to who I am directly related to (not even adding brothers and sisters unless they are pertinent to some information, because I don't really care)...so I've been trying to hide his stuff, but recently, I am finding a few ancestors on the tree that I KNOW I did not add!

So do other people HAVE CONTROL over my tree? Why would even the helpers or moderators add people?

What I'm really asking, is, Is this about building a huge tree for EVERYONE to link to- or is this about me being able to use this site for building something of my own?
If it's about Geni just gaining info, then I need to leave.
It is far too confusing to have other people (some who don't know how to even research genealogy) leaving odd bits of useless information on MY TREE.

  PS,
  Well, I just went to delete those two names, and it says that it was added BY ME, but I sure don't recall doing that.

  Geni's primary goal is a World Family Tree where everyone collaborate and work together. This means that you will observe that all siblings and their spouses and children is added as well, simply because they probably are someone else's ancestor.  Deleting them results ruining the tree for others. Your privacy range is by default maximized out to fourth cousins and their spouses, defined as Family Group, which means that private profiles within that range can only be modified by Geni users which have this profile within their family range, independent on who is the manager,  and as far as I can see there are 6 users. All other profiles can be merged and partly edited by any one with a Premium Subscription  - with full access if a Collaborator.
  
  If the siblings of your ancestors are bother you, you have the option to select direct ancestors only in the tree-view preferences: How To: Customize Your Tree Display
