Currently it looks like all the profiles I "manage" are visible to search engines. In other words if you Google their names, their profile page will show with information such as "brother of..... " , "sister of..." etc., and includes their photos.
I've checked privacy settings and can't find anything that lets me undo this.
How can I make sure all my "managed profiles" are not visible to the search engines?

All living manage profiles are private and not indexed by search engines. Deceased profiles (up to a point) can be public or private. If private, they will not be indexed by Google. If a private profile is connected to a public profile or a profile of a claimed user, which is indexed, then Geni will only show the first name of the private profile. You can set a deceased profile within your family group to private within the edit screen (top right checkbox). If a profile is claimed, then that user has the ability to control their privacy and permissions. For permissions (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/permissions), uncheck "Let the public search for me (profile privacy settings apply)". Profile privacy (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/profile_privacy) will apply regardless of it your profile is indexed by Google or not. So if your father is indexed by Google, your name and profile picture may be visible to the public on that page if you allow it in the privacy section. Hope this helps...
I am having this same problem and the above response does not seem to hold true.
I manage both my brother and my mothers accounts. The information says they should not be visible to the public (first names) but when i logout and search for them it shows their full names...
not sure what im doing wrong but i need to have it fixed... any ideas?
Rochelle, since your mother and brother logged into Geni at some point, their profiles became claimed (or semi-claimed). At that point, their permissions (and visibility) become their responsibility and can't be managed by family members. They control these settings in Privacy and Permissions:
1) https://www.geni.com/account_settings/profile_privacy
2) https://www.geni.com/account_settings/permissions Uncheck "Let the public search for me (profile privacy settings apply)"
It looks like your mother has logged in recently, so directing her to these should allow her to set it. Your brother has not logged in for a long time, so if he can't login due to old email, we can remove the email assigned to that profile. That should give control back to you and you can choose to reinvite him if you desire.
Is there a way to make profiles I manage require my approval before merging. I don't mean a request to merge, I just want a message sent to me for me to approve the merge.
