Why does Geni require a credit card number for a so called free trial period? "Free" in my books equals "no charge", ie no credit card should be required. Is this a serious site or a money rip-off site?

Jeff, Geni Curator The credit card is a check against fraud to prevent people from continuously getting free service using a different email. If you cancel within the 14 day period, your card will not be charged.

Jeff, Geni Curator Also note that Geni does have a free plan - the pro membership is an upgrade to gain additional functionality on the site. Also consider the Data Subscription and DNA testing - those are separate costs from the normal Geni membership.
