How to fix a "duplicate" record before merging it?

I am aware of two duplicate records but before I merge them I'd like to fix one.  There's a typo.  How does the merge process work?

  It's possible you may not have the proper permissions before a merge to edit the other profile, but if you can, you could certainly fix the typo.  Alternatively, and this is more often the case, you merge the profiles and then do conflict resolution on them.  So if a name is spelled differently or if there is a slight date mismatch, you can go back and choose the one that you believe is correct.  After the merge, go to the actions menu and you'll see a item titled "Resolve Conflicting Data".  Click that and you'll be presented with a table where you can choose which values you want to keep.

  Oh, and of course, after the merge (they're a single profile) you can always just edit it directly to whatever value you want.
