Managing profiles in my tree

I set up the family tree and therefore am the manager - or so I thought.  I invited various members of the family to join and the outcomes are all different.

Some profiles I can still edit even thought they had added further information.  Other profile have had the "edit" facility removed so that I cannot add or amend anything.  However it varies as to who now has control:

In some I am still named as the manager but seem to have lost the control to edit - how did that happen?

In some it would appear the individual whose profile it is has gained some sort of control, athough they are not named as a manager, so I can only request to collaborate with them - how and why did  that happen?

The third variant would appear that they have somehow transferred managment to themselves so I can only request being a co manager - what did they do that was different to the above?

  Irina, I don't have the answer but am hoping that my response will get your question to the top of some list.  I have your issues but now I have another.  A young cousin passed away and I cannot edit her profile, even though I created it.  I have Geni Pro if that makes a difference.  I would really like to indicate she has passed before her birthday announcements start coming through.  That would be pretty cruel to her parents and close relatives.

  Irina, you see different results based on the claimed status.  On the profiles where you can still edit but which are claimed, this means the person visited Geni but has not yet fully "claimed" their profile by changing their password.  Thus you are still able to edit it.  Once someone claims their profile, they are in charge with regard to who can edit their profile.  By default, only they can edit it, but they can change that in their preferences.  Starting a family tree doesn't give you any special rights over your other family members - it's a collaborative tree.

  Bruce, it sounds like your cousin's profile was claimed prior to her passing, since you can no longer edit it.  What you'll need to do is report her as deceased to Geni via the Actions menu and they'll close her account and release the profile to you for editing.  http://help.geni.com/entries/499442-how-can-i-update-the-profile-for-someone-who-is-deceased
