What is a family group and how do I set one up

I am trying to connect to my husband's family tree but all of our family profiles are set to private. It said online when we looked that people int he family group can edit profiles to make them public. We are not able to do this. How do we set up the family group and make our immediate family profile public so we can link our trees together?

  Sara, You do not set up a family group. Your family group on Geni is all your family out to 3rd grandparents and 4th cousins. and by default is private.It can be seen only by family members who have joined Geni. You can make any profile you entered public by editing the profile. there is a private or public box to check.You have entered a profile for yourself so effectively you now have two trees on Geni which need to be merged. As a Basic member, you can not start a merge but you can complete one so I will start the merge for you. I will contact you privately.
