Trying to add Yorkshire (UK) as a birthplace is not possible..it only allows Yorkshire (USA) in the drop down box

  The location detection uses the Google geolocation API, which doesn't handle historical locations well.  You can manually edit each location field by selecting the "Edit Location Details" link below the location box.
