I logged into my account and saw potential merges. At the bottom of the screen, I noticed an alert to the fact that if the match/merge is accepted that the Family Trees will also be merged. Is this true? In the case of the matches, the profiles being merged would be beneficial because of added information. But merging of the family trees will not be inasmuch as some of the matches are not part of the bloodline of the other. Although person may need to be on both trees, will merging the Family Trees muddy up the bloodline picture of each family line?

Jeff, Geni Curator The goal and primary focus of Geni is a single world tree, which is currently over 89 million connected profiles. So we want duplicates to be merged - single profile for each person, which is unlike other sites that have thousands of isolated trees with duplicates. We want to tie everyone together and protect privacy around your branch (family group) of the tree. The concept is best described here: https://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree/learn-more So, if there are duplicates, we would absolutely like to tie them together by blood, marriage, adoption. If you need any help merging, which can sometimes be daunting if there is large duplication, feel free to ask for assistance either here or in the curator assistance forum - we're happy to assist and complete pending merges. https://www.geni.com/discussions/142108
