While viewing a certain person in my tree I noticed there is a Managed By at the bottom and it's a different persons name then mine. What does Manage By actually mean? I have not allowed anyone else to work with me on my tree. Thank You.

Anne-Marie Official comment Dear Susan and Lionel
Geni is a collaborative site, meaning Geni users are working on building one big worldtree. When someone is adding their tree and find a duplicate profile they can merge this profile with the profile with yours, and this is how they become a manager. Every profile can be managed by multiple people. Are you not a manager at all anymore from the profiles you added?

Susan Louise Barnett Yes that is my very question also. Why some of my family members that I added say they are 'managed by' some name other than myself. How can I fix that so that I am manger of my own family profiles?

Lionel Edelman Hi Susan,
Have you had a reply to your situation about Managing Profiles and so on.
Please let me know, Thank you, Lionel

Susan Louise Barnett Anne-Marie~Yes I have found that answer from another 'official' on Geni. I am not feeling good abt it still at this point that the goal is to "build one big worldtree". I personlly do not like "one-world" anything because it usually indicates all becoming one, not my cuppa tea or java.
It seems to just add to more confusing data that I might not agree with but someone else changes or adds to in my family tree. Personal identity is lacking as this worldtree grows and grows.
For those reasons I am not very active on this site.
I do remain manager status for several of my profiles in my personal family tree.

Robert Francis Smith to whoever needs to know ... I am a reasonably new user to Genie , when I joined it was because it was recommended by another user who has been here for a long time.
I do realise that this seems to be a world wide site and any person can add, change, correct any person on MY TREE therefore making it open slather for others to add or changed what I have entered to what they think is right , and more often than not it is NOT. Classic example for me , and it is a glaring error, that my mother's sister is listed as deceased in 1983 BUT in fact she is very much ALIVE. This has really hurt myself and family members.
I have a very strong suspicion that a lot just copy and paste of other trees that are incorrect.
I want to know WHY other people can become managers of your close family members you have and secondly How can I change their name to mine on my tree, If this cannot be done or not allowed I will be seiously think about complete deletion because to me this is an invasion of privacy the reason for that is one may have a some very private family information that they do want on others to know about

Susan Louise Barnett Robert Francis Smith~what I have learned on Geni is that you can request to 'manage' a particular person in your tree. You do this by making the request to manage your family member via eamil to the person listed as 'manager'.
I found it easy to get the manage acceptance from the person who initially managed several of my family members in my tree, Eldon Lester Clark who was a volunteer curator on Geni site. He died in 2018.
Robert, I strongly suggest that you make that request from the person who is listed as manager on your particular family profiles in your tree that you want to control/manage.
You will feel more comfortable when you find yourself 'in the driver's seat' here on Geni.

Robert Francis Smith To the owner, managers, or the people who are responsible for the running , upkeep and overall control of this GENI FAMILY PROGRAM. When I downloaded and joined Geni I was under the though of having a place on line to share MY tree with MY family, but since I have discovered that is far from the aim. I am very unhappy with it because the are ppl I do not know that are also logged on as Managers of my tree. I have not, do not and will not have others making any adjustment, corrections or any other change to my tree without written permission from me. Now it is because of frail tree privacy I now announce that becuase of wrong inormation being added by other who say they are correct is that I am now rescinding my GENI membership and going to another better site that can give what I look for.
