By chance I happened upon geni.com tonight and found it interesting. I opened a FREE account. Lo and behold, it won't let me enter my parents' information. I have entered and re-entered it FIVE TIMES and nothing. Their birth date, city/province/country is not captured by the geni system.
In addition, the site keeps asking me to log in, EVEN THOUGH I am ALREADY logged in. Now it is asking me for my password; however, when I registered for the site, it didn't ask me for a password. Since I don't have a password, it is now asking me for my PHONE NUMBER.
It may be a glitch or it may be INTENTIONAL on geni.com's part in order to keep harvesting more and more of our PERSONAL INFORMATION.
Frankly, I feel that this is a ruse, and I"m now wondering whether it's a scam. I see no phone number to call the geni people to find out what is going on. They want my phone number, which I am NOT going to give them, but they don't even bother to post a BUSINESS PHONE NUMBER or a CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTACT!!!!! Does anyone find anything WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE?!
BOTTOM LINE: I feel deceived and having been "seduced" into signing on for this "FREE" service, and now, after spending considerable time on it, I can't even use it. I was considering signing up for the PAID SERVICE, but due to this VERY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE WITH GENI.COM, I will NOT.
Will the ancestor program work correctly only if I sign up for the paid site? If so, then it certainly looks like a BAIT-AND-SWITCH!!!!!
