I seem to have a "Catch 22"...

I recently found a possible relative on this site, part of another user's tree. If I could see their tree as such, I could probably find the place that it intersects with mine.

But as I understand the Site rules, I'm not allowed to see their tree unless they add me to it. And they can't add me to it (even if they'd like to), unless we find where our trees intersect--which we can't do, because we can't see each other's trees.

Can anyone suggest a way out of this rules conundrum?

  Ed, I would start with the public profiles and move down in the other tree until you hit the private barrier.  Then build your tree up to that point where you both have an overlapping public profile.  Then merge the two (or get help merging the two).  Then resolve the remaining conflicts on the private profiles.  Otherwise, when you build your tree, Geni will try to match your profiles with others in the tree (even private ones).  So you may see that blue icon pop up that indicates a possible match in an existing tree.  Also, you could ask a curator to assist if you think you may have an idea of existing profiles.
