Private profiles - Lists & accessible change button

Can't there be an easier way to search for private profiles in our tree?   Than haveing go go through -  the whole list  of "managed by" or "recently add'

Can't the "priviate profile" button also be on the main data entry page also?  Rather than having to  being forced to go to tohe edit  page when there is nothing really to edit about the person???

Guess I am  just lazy  but this is anoying  when  Geni automatically  marks the profile  "private" and the person  is deceased; been deceased a number of years or is way down the line not within  what i would consider the  'direct' three to four generationerational descent line  ie.  following the grandparents, their children and their grandchildren back as clues -    third  and fourth cousins and X times removed to me does not really classify 'immediate family"

  Mine's the opposite -- they keep marking folks as Public Profile, and I keep going in and changing to Private.    Making us have to go to the Edit page to change Privacy Status is a recent change on Geni's part -- I assume they thought they had a reason for doing so, but do not know what it was.

  ... just an observation ... the goal of Geni.com is to "connect the world" -- one profile per person.  Is a person's information which is more than 150 years old (to pick an arbitrary value) really "private"?  No privacy law I know pertains to such old information ... only to protect currently living people (and relatives still living).

  Since I joined into Geni.com particularly BECAUSE of that "vision", I welcome anything which makes it easier to find matches of ancestors ... such as forcing "older" profiles to be public.

  Now, I do agree there could be better "controls" over modifications to public profiles, but not that shouldn't be searchable/viewable.

  re: Original request --- on the "Lists" panel (after the first list is created, this on the left side) there is a selection (under Filters - the one to select 'privacy' status) to restrict the list you manage to just the "privacy status" you select.

  Then, at least, it is just a single click to change the privacy status (rather than having to edit the profile).

  my brother in my tree has been logged as decease when I try to change I can't see the edit button

  Catherine you had marked him as deceased yourself according to the revisions. This should however not be possible since it is a user profile, but it might happen as a part of a profile merge. If he really is deceased you have to use the Report/deceased action in the Actions menu on his profile to instruct Geni staff to close his account first.
