Decouple Birthday and Anniversary Notifications

Geni sends out a lot of "spamish" type messages....who wants to know everytime somebody in the family has a wedding anniversary?  So decouple it so I can choose to only receive emails about birthdays......

Note: The only reason I monitor birthday's is because Geni makes it hard to uncheck the "send birthday notifications to relatives"...I presume Geni's marketing push (Even though Geni has a great product OTHER than the spam it generates)....so I have to monitor birthday notifications just to make sure I did not forget to uncheck the "send birthday's to family members box"...this is a sneaky feature of GENI that should have an option to decheck on all the people we manage.  

Honestly, I love Geni...but I get tired of every time I want to invite one of my family members to have to send them an email explaining how Geni is free to most users unless they want Pro (like Me) but that in exchange they can be a bit spamy so I tell them not to add other email addresses in the tree.

  Example: My brother is married.  I want to receive birthday notifications about my sister in law, but i do not want to receive any notifications about her own family tree.  I would like to be able to disable notifications by pointing to a person (my sister in law) and click a button that says: "PRUNE".  Meaning: I am not interested on any "branches" that depart from this person.

  The PRUNE button, should offer two options.

  a) Leave this person IN: I want to receive notifications about this person, but no info about her/his other related nodes.

  b) Take this person also OUT.  I do not want to receive any info about this person; I do not want to receive any info about her/his relatives on "her" side of the tree.

  Of course the pruning should not affect nodes that are CLOSER TO ME than the targetted person.  e.g.  when i PRUNE at my sister in law, requesting removal of "her relatives", I am NOT speaking about my own brother.  Take out any relatives on her side, that are not related to me otherwise.

  Just to clarify...

  You are aware that you can choose not to get notifications for everyone individually on your tree by ticking the box?

  And you are not asking to actually prune your tree just the notifications from the pruned section?

  Sorry.  I cannot find a way to choose not to get notifications from an individual.

  You said “by ticking the box”.  Please clarify.  Which box?

  You are right; i am not asking to remove the individual from the three.  i want to only disable notifications sent to me, related to teir birthdays/events.

  It's not easy to find, you have to click on the profile of a living person that you have already entered before and look below their data of birth under "send birthday reminders to her/his family" and decheck it.  That's at least for an individual....but does not prune the branch.  You have to go into account settings then Notifications to change it globally.

  Ah... i had seen that checkbox, but i  interpreted that if i unchecked that, THE COMPLETE FAMILY would stop receiving emails related to this individual.  The legend by the checkbox is a little misleading IMHO.

  I'm not sure how universal this tick box is (it is the one I was talking about).  I had a look at my ex's profile and it is ticked there but I don't get notifications so presumably the rest of his family, if they've claimed their profiles, will receive notifications unless they select not to receive notifactions at all.  I hope this helps you.

  Marcelo - I think you are correct.  You can choose not to get ANY Birthday notifications (in your Account Settings - and this also means no Anniversary notifications).  You can also choose for any living Profile you can edit, to uncheck "Send Birthday Notifications" -- but I believe this means nobody is sent them for this person. 

  I agree - it would be nice to have a way to customize this - to be able to say I want notifications about those relatives, not about those others.  Tho I would not call it Pruning - that, to me, suggests removing folks from the tree, not simply stopping Birthday Messages.   And why they let you say whether or not to send Birthday Notices, but not Anniversary is beyond me.  Even of the folks I know who are married, I wish many more folks "Happy Birthday" than "Happy Anniversary".

  By the way - did you notice -- those with Basic Accounts are once again unable to use "Send a Birthday Greeting"?

  Agreed; pruning sounds too drastic.  People can relate this to pruning persons, not to pruning their notifications only. 

  I hope the "Geni" guys come up with a proper term for this. 
  But, even more i hope they agree to including the feature itself.  Please,   Getting notified about ALL the birthdays and anniversaries on the tree, is overwhelming.  It makes me think of cutting off all notifications for good.  I hope they undertsand this works against the goals of this website.  Cheers.
