Can we please, please get rid of these ridiculous 'Record Matches'
Don't you people at Geni realize that everyone is not born or died, and therefore recorded in the USA. This feature ought to be optional for those interested in connecting to the archived records and not imposed on the rest of us.
I agree that the automatic searches for the "external" record matches seems to impose an unnecessary additional slowness on viewing a profile.
It would be nicer to have:
1) A smaller button.
2) A simpler "search report" which just indicates "Possible Record Matches Found" ... and don't bother searching for counts of how many until a person clicks on the button. -- That ought to be much faster (i.e.: once a single possible is found, display button -- keep it quick!).
Over time, however, other world-wide archives might become available; I wouldn't want to eliminate the feature!
Currently i have over 9.700 record matches on my own name.. its totally ridiculous... Im not deceased (as far as I know).
Frankly, since I am a de luxe subscriber to Ancestry.co.uk, which means that I can explore ANY records from any country whose records have been digitized by the LDS and these records are also sometimes offered as an 'alternative' to your "Archives", why is one not immediately and automatically offered access to the Ancestry records -- FOR WHICH I HAVE ALREADY PAID -- instead of being fobbed off on an additional cost "Archive"?
I hate these - eliminate them - or have a positive button for those who want to seee them - do not inflict them on those of us that will never use them - just find them obnoxious - if it doesn't stop soon - I'm out of here!!!!
Things have changed a lot in a year and a half ... there are MANY stories surfacing where people are finding lots of previously unknown relatives and wonderful newspaper articles that they hadn't come across before -- from the new Record Matches and Smart Matches(tm) which now take advantage of the MyHeritage "SuperSearch" technology and access to an ever-growing variety of databases from across the world -- and all this is newly released on Geni in the past week, showing the synergy which is just beginning to "bear fruit" from MyHeritage's purchase of Geni.com a few months ago.
Many people who had gotten stymied with expanding their family searches are now finding new connections -- and I am one of them. For example, I went from just knowing the name of one child of a great-grand-uncle to now knowing lots of details about that child, his 10 siblings, and almost all of their families (spouses, children, grand-children) ... many new 2nd & 3rd cousins!
Some of the SmartMatches do require a MyHeritage Data subscription; but many of them are free (where the indexed database is also free, such as US Census and the world-wide FindAGrave database).
Yes, that *does* mean there are lots of new possible matches (not Geni Tree merges) to check, but that is what make the Geni World Tree get better over time -- and now it is much easier to find and check such information.
