When you are related to someone in more than one way the path shown is often not the closest relationship. This should be fixed.

Allen Fleagle Daniel Fleagle 1804 - 1884 is my fourth great uncle. When I look at his profile, however, it states Daniel Fleagle is my third cousin thrice removed's husband's father. While that may be true, it certainly isn't the relationship path I would choose to describe my fourth great uncle.

Lisette Datnow (Shain) Can you not request to look for another relationship path. I think that would be a great feature.

Lisa Karen Foltz Having very similar problem. Nearly every time on one side of my family. One example: it shows my third cousin twice removed as my 20th cousin thrice removed. The second is true but obviously not the shortest path.

Geni Support Team Hi Lisa, can you please provide the link to a specific example?
It's possible the old path is still cached or you may need to complete some merges in the tree.

Lisa Karen Foltz A (very spectacular) curator pointed me to "walking the path". So this example has been, at least temporarily fixed. The main issue still remains in that I rely on geni to tell me how these obscure relatives are linked to me. In the specific case, the other individual knew a shorter path. I don't see being able to "walk the path" if you don't know the correct shorter path! See if I can find another example and I'll post again if I do.

Lisa Karen Foltz Ah... walking the path fixed the specific example, but I used one of his sisters and got the long path again. Here you go...

Geni Support Team Over time, relationship paths can change as merges are completed. Sometimes you may not see the shortest path because the old path is still cached. About a week after the path is calculated, a refresh icon will appear to the left of the green pushpin. You can click on this to refresh the path. "Walking the path" may let you refresh the path sooner. Note curators can refresh the path at any time using the icon.

Geni Support Team Sorry, forgot to mention we refreshed your path to Ada Albertson.
