Just make the whole darn thing free.

Congratulations on making "merge" a free feature.  That is a nice, baby step.  Now take the Really Big Step:

Get rid of Geni Pro.  Make the whole darn thing free.  Make it ad-supported, like Facebook.  It is addictive.  You could have a billion users, just like Facebook.  It is a compelling idea, to have and to link the entire world through family trees.  It will grow as fast as Wikipedia, Facebook and LinkedIn if you make it free.  Nobody will mind it if the ads are relegated to the side and the bottom.  And for those individuals bothered by ads, you can offer a paid version that is ad free.  

I promise you that this business model will greatly increase the value of Geni, now owned by MyHeritage.  Think of it as Google Maps for people.  Ask yourself:  Does Google charge for Google Maps?
