I have been frustrated time and again by total inability to figure out how to get FORCED line breaks without also forcing a paragraph break.
This renders it *completely impossible* to post anything of a poetic nature - I have been forced to resort to " / " to indicate where the line breaks should have been.
Such desperate shifts only work with very short pieces and are a pathetically feeble substitute for the real thing.
Must we be limited to prose forever?
Is there some sort of formatting script that one can use to do this? Please help, and provide some sort of feedback here.

I am a bit confused about where you want to be able to have line breaks that are not new paragraphs.
If you are talking about the About field for someone's profile or in the text of a Project, while you are editing, you can click on the last button above the edit field, whose icon is an arrow that moves down and then does a 90% turn to the left. When you click that button it produces the code <br/>
If you are talking about comments in the help pages, that may not work. Let's try<br/>to see if that makes a newline when I click Submit.
Well, <br/> didn't produce a linebreak. Let's try Shift-Enter and Ctrl-Enter:
Here is text, followed by Shift-Enter
and more text, which appears to be on a new line without being a new paragraph.
In this new paragraph I'll try Ctrl-Enter
and that produced a new paragraph.
For these Help pages, it seems Shift-Enter will produce a newline
that is not a new paragraph. I'll go back now and insert one after "newline" and before "that".
. . . and Submit
So I think your answer is to paste the poem into your comment here, and then go back and wherever you would have placed "/", click there and hold down the Shift key and tap Enter.
