Geni needs complete name change functionality. Other commenters have mentioned last names, maiden names, what have you - but Geni needs COMPLETE name change functionality. There should be the ability to enter all the different names a person had during their life. The person should be searchable under any of the names they had. Their display name and their box on the tree should be able to show more than one name.
Among my relatives, name changes were very common. People who emigrated from Europe to Israel typically took new Hebrew names. Many emigrants from the European continent to Britain in the 1930s, such as my father, took new English-sounding names.
This needs to apply to spelling changes as well. My mother and grandparents had three different legal spellings of their name - Löwenthal, Loewenthal and Lowenthal. All should be able to be entered and searchable.
There should also be some sort of standardization of the presentation of people who've had name changes. Currently there is no standardization, no rules, and hence confusion.
