Fix relationship paths

After connecting 2 parts of my tree by using "move" and saying the profiles are the same person, my 6th great grandfather is now: Dewald Nehs is your second cousin four times removed's husband's great aunt's husband's grandfather.

When I click on "Son of", I get the message above.

This is the 2nd example I've sent you of screwed up relationships but I have more. I can no longer trust this feature and am irritated when it affects my direct line. Relationships are the heart of genealogy - your reputation is going downhill and so will your business if you can't get this right!

  Hi Roberta - Sometimes our relationship paths get confused by merges and can appear out of sorts for a short time after a merge is completed. I'm sorry that this was giving you trouble. It has corrected itself now - we refresh the relationship paths every 14 days.

  You can only imagine how much work our computers have to do to calculate relationship paths between millions of profiles. We're also working on some enhanced relationship path features that will allow you to find and view multiple relationship paths between two profiles.

  I am really looking forward to these "enhanced relationship path features". In the mean time, is there a way to create a spesific path manually? For example, today I found that my sister is the the 9 cousine of her ex husband, and I would really like to send her the path illustrating this.

  There's a workaround, of sorts. Start with the person whose relationship seems "off", click the pushpin to set the start of the relationship path to that person, then go to the profile for your parent (father or mother, as appropriate) and see what it says *that* relationship is.

  Unfortunately this is strictly temporary, as once you reset the pushpin to yourself, it goes back to the stored (incorrect) information.

  Eventually, though, you may see a little "cycle arrow" (two arrows in a circle pointing at each other) to the right of the path, and once that shows up you can click on it to have the path recalculated. Usually that will clear things up. Usually.

  I incorrectly entered my mother (wife of my father) as his mother, so my mother now appears at my father's mother and my grandmother. How can I correct this please?

  Hi Pieter, you can simply click on the small x at the top right corner of the node to delete it from the tree.
