The time between when a profile "comes up" on the screen initially (usually just 1-3 seconds or less) and when the current "profile panel" is really available for editing -- this latter point is now typically delayed between 7-13 seconds in duration. That's way too long.
The initial "disply" comes up in a time that is appropriate for the speed of the connection at that time of day. No issue there. However, at that initial point in time one cannot (for example) start adding or changing the marriage date ... because, if one does not wait until the "transfer of data" is complete (which can be seen by the "light colored guide text" such as MM DD YYYY in the empty fields), then that date entered does not seem to "take" and one has to go back into editing the Relationship tab (or event details) to do the same change again. If one waits until the "backend lag" is completed, then the changes always "take" the first time.
This 7-13 second delay seems to have little to do with the overall responsiveness between my location and geni.com's initial "display" time. Moreover, that "delay time" seems to correspond to the time it takes (the first time) for the lookup of the "possible associated records".
There have been previous suggestions that this "other records lookup" simply quit counting (just limit the returned records to 1 for speed). The "bug" is that this lookup-delay behavoirly seems to be occuring on other "edit profile" panels (e.g.: basic, relationship, about, etc.) which do not and have no need to display other possible matching records from the geni.com's partners.
This delay problem occurs all the time; I have tried it in three different geographic locations (~20 miles apart) with different ISP's in each location, and that "secondary delay" is consistently present upon the first time "into" editing a profile. Once the profile has been accessed (fully), those "backend lags" don't happen (probably because the information is cached locally), but it does occur again after switching to other profiles. It happens on all profiles.
I do recognize it may not have anything to do with the record-lookup at partner sites; that seems to be just a behavioral correlation. In any case, this "backend" update lag is a really pain for trying to "quickly" edit one or two items on a bunch of different profiles.
