have two family members that have passed away and cannot update their dates of death. other family members keep getting birthday updates for them. Why can't I update that they have DIED??

Jeff, Geni Curator It's likely because their profiles were claimed and you can't edit a claimed profile. So what you have to do is report the person as deceased to Geni. You do this via the actions menu, report. Please see these instructions: http://help.geni.com/entries/499442-how-can-i-update-the-profile-for-someone-who-is-deceased
