No matter what kind of search I am trying to do with the "Quick help" column, I will always get the "We are experiencing technical difficulties" message. I have been trying to use this feature since I joined Geni, and never worked properly. Any idea what is wrong with this?

Natalie MacLees Hello Yaacov - I'm sorry that you're having trouble. I'm thinking that you're referring to the 'Quick search' section at the top of the yellow column on our search page (http://www.geni.com/search)? Can you please give me an example of a search you are trying to do? I quickly tested, and was able to complete a search without a problem. I might be looking at the wrong thing, though.

Yaacov Slizak Hi Natalie,
Here is my test bed:
- From the Home menu, "Research", "Search"
- I enter "Lukow" in the "Quick Search - All of Geni" box. Click "Search" and the button will show "Searching", forever. No results
- I enter "Lukow" in the "Events, Birth" Location field. Leaving "country" unselected. I will get immediately the "We are experiencing technical difficulties" message
FYI, I'm using Win7/ Firefox 14
Thank you

Natalie MacLees Hi Yaacov - Thanks for clarifying. I tried repeating your searches in Firefox on both Windows 7 and Mac, and was able to complete them without having any problems. Note that the Quick Search field only searches names, not locations. And that it's not possible to complete a search without a name.
I have a couple of suggestions for you to help reset your browser before you try searching again:
1. Clear your cache. You can find instructions for clearing the cache in Firefox here: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=clear-cache-delete-temporary-files-fix-issues
2. Clear your cookies: Click this link: http://www.geni.com/login/clear_cookies You'll need to log back into Geni afterward, but all Geni cookies will be cleared from your browser so you can start fresh.

Iddo Micha Oberski I find a similar problem. When using advanced search, I put in the following parameters: search names 'managed by you'; Then under events: Death between 1940-1945; Country: Poland
Result: we're expiencing technical difficulties. Only if I put in a name will it come up with a proper search result. It would be good to clarify at the top of the search screens that a name must be entered for the search to work, or perhaps even better, to set up the search so one can find people connected to a particular event.

Jeff, Geni Curator Heriberto, you can place a ticket at the top of the page. On the search, make sure name is spelled correctly. The site doesn't use fuzzy matching. You can also filter to profiles you manage. I haven't experienced any issues with this, so it may be something specific to your situation.
