I have found many profiles where the manager has not been on geni for a year or even two years yet when I report that manager, I get a message back saying I reported it incorrectly. I look at the place on the manager's profile that shows the date the person last logged into geni. Is this not the correct place to determine how long it's been since they've been on geni and thus abandoned their tree?

Bjørn P. Brox You don't use the Report option for that anymore.
You will find an "Abandoned tree" option directly in the Action menu if Geni classifies the account as abandoned and selecting that command will, if possible, add the neares active Geni user as comanager of that persons profiles.

Krishnaiah PG Many times reporting results in a message UNABLE TO FIND MANAGER. What is to be done in such cases

Marsha Gail Kamish They'll change the manager if they can find one. If they can't, your merge request stays out there like a sore thumb forever and ever. If they aren't going to release the tree, they should make it invisible. Very frustrating.

Kenneth Joseph Bagg Neder In reference to the "Abandoned tree". Bjorn Is on the right track. If a member abandon their tree. Any person that is a member, and is connected to this tree. Should be able to adopt that tree.
Now, since there are several tree's abandoned. Maybe, it is time to set up a Adoption Network/Pool among the Geni Families, and displayed by surname and links.(Click and browse the tree for connection)
The first selector's of choice would be the nearest curator linked to that tree. Secondly, if there is no curator(s) available. Then recruit one to a temporary curatorship position, and let he/she to assist the growth of that tree.
Now, if the tree has only ten or less named entries with no activity of growth, and has no authors. Then enter it into the Adoption Pool to see if anyone cares to adopt that tree, and merge it!
Well, anyway! I thought to put my two cents in.
Good Luck!
