Countries, places and languages in Russian for example have messed up encoding, so they don't show up properly in statistics. It would also be great to translate these to the language of the interface, since large trees might consist of multiple languages, and it's not very useful to see a mix of them in statistics.

Brox In general names cannot be translated (my name would be Bear in English), but to some level they can be written using different alphabets, something you see Geni already is handling when you check where names written using Cyrillic is sorted in the Public Genealogy Directory pages, http://www.geni.com/directory/people/a.html
The solution which have been discussed with Geni staff is supporting language dependent display names, but I don't know if and when it will be implemented.

Artem Goutsoul Well, I was talking more about country names, city names and language names. These are easily localizable, I'd say.
As for people's names, Geni could take the approach of Linkedin, where one could manually provide different name spellings for different languages, since quite often it's not a direct transliteration (and besides, transliteration rules across languages are extremely inconsistent over time).
