The taggings in photos are lost when merging profiles. Profile photos based on such taggings are, by mistake, replaced by the entire picture (which may include a lot of people). This is a dangerous bug and may imply that we loose the identification of people after merging profiles.

Geni Support Team Hello Dag:
I was unable to replicate the issue. Is there a recent profile that was merged that you can provide as an example, so I can try to look into it further?
Thank you.

Dag Lukkassen Thanks for you attention. Last time it happened was some months ago, but I am not sure if I can recall a concrete case (sorry). I have a feeling that it happened when the new administator of the profile did not have permission to tag prior to the merging took place. I think the list of persons in the picture was kept, but the green boxes around each identified person was lost.

Lo I think it may have happened in this one: http://www.geni.com/people/Bernard-Kramer/6000000011643602901 - I know it was merged, and both photos in Media have a list of names, none are tagged, AND one of the two photos is the one from which the Profile Photo comes - which I think means at one time it was tagged.

Dag Lukkassen I now have have a better understanding of what is going on. Here is one example: Today I merged the profie http://www.geni.com/people/Rut-Synn%C3%B8ve-Br%C3%A5then-Fjeldheim/6000000011589001440?through=6000000010950023348 with some other private profile which I got access to by invitation. The tagging is not lost (fortunately), but the original profile picture is replaced by whole picture. This may explain why so many "have chosen to" use a group picture as profile picture in thousands of geni-profiles. This is not good!

Dag Lukkassen The latest example is of today when merging the following profile. http://www.geni.com/people/Nils-Fagerjord/6000000014429486374 I have left his profile Picture unchanged so that you can see the problem. Now, I hope you have sufficient info to make changes in the code to remove this dangerous bug.

Dag Lukkassen This error has continued to occur regularly. I have observed it myself a lot of times since the first time I reported it, more than two years ago. It is a dreadful bug. I don’t understand why I seem to be the only one who is deeply concerned with the fatal consequences this may have one existing geni-profiles.
