Hello,
At Christmas Dinner yesterday, many of my inlaws scolded me for "signing them up for spam" in that I added their Email address to their Geni profiles. One case in point, my wife's Mother was notified that she had a new connection to "Gene Maloni", who is my mother's sister's daughter's husband. Someone who has absolutely no relation to her whatsoever. Furthermore, she was sent another email notifying her that she had a new relative "Jasmine" ... who happens to be her 13-year old grand daughter. The discussion then changed to how they believe that Geni is a front for all kinds of identity theft, and that I should not be putting children, or any of their real names on the site (which obviously defeats the purpose, I get that ... however being spammed with silly emails about how your 13-year old grand-daughter is somehow a "new" relative, or that your son-in-law's cousin's husband is somehow related to you, is absurd. Why do you send out notifications about MY extended family to my in-laws? That makes no sense to me, and had I known that these are the kinds of silly notifications that would go out, I would never have added their email addresses to their profiles. Shouldn't you disable notifications for extended extended family???
