I am not a "Pro member. But I DID work very hard on free Geni to build up my family tree. Suddenly all have been deleted. Does Geni automatically do this iff you do not pay for Pro membership?. If not can the deleted tree be restored?

Bjørn P. Brox Try logging in to the correct account using the email you used to build your tree;-)
The account you logged in to now IS empty and always have been empty.

David H. Goodman Thanks so much. What an idiot I am!

Anne Tubinis Audette I'm a Geni basic member. Others have merged trees with my own. There were about 300 names. Now, all is gone except my immediate family-parents and siblings.
Any ideas what must be done to retrieve the tree?
Thanks!

Bjørn P. Brox When it comes to your missing tree I notice that Customer Service have helped you with something on your parents and secondly I noticed that you have deleted some profiles yourself like your fathers mother. Do you remember what you needed help for?

Anne Tubinis Audette Hi,
Thanks for your response.
The only thing I have regarding Customer Service is an open ticket. I realize they're not going to help me since I'm a basic member. I don't remember contacting them for anything else.
I don't remember deleting my father's mother at all. Her extended family is where the riches are, meaning others had merged their tree with mine. How may I view what you described, that I deleted my father's mother's profile?
I'm really puzzled by this!
Thank you.

Anne Tubinis Audette Hi, again, Bjorn,
I'm looking at the "Revisions" tab. There's much info there. However, I did not contact customer service, nor did I perform any tasks that resulted in this, for example:
unknown was removed as a manager of Anna "Ona" Batulevičienė-Butler (Narinkevičiūtė).
Then, I see this:
unknown was deleted by Customer Service.Fri at 1:18 PMAny ideas? Thanks again! -
Anne Tubinis Audette Hi, Bjorn,
I messaged Geni through their FB page. Here's their response-
"Hi Anne, after reviewing your account, we see that the profiles were deleted as part of a GDPR takedown request. As required by law, all profiles and information added by the requester were removed from the site. Please note that all profiles you have added are still on Geni. If the profiles you were connected to have been deleted, you will need to re-add them to Geni yourself. You may want to take a look at your added profiles list and add back any missing relatives to reconnect them."
It seems to be a mess! My great grandparents profiles are gone!
-
Bjørn P. Brox OK, - I messaged customer support myself about this case because I suspected something like that.
Anyhow: Just start to add back your grandparents, instead of starting to re-attach eventually unconnected profiles. You will get automatically get duplicate matches on eventually unconnected profiles which you can merge in to reconnect loose ends.

Anne Tubinis Audette Thanks, Bjorn! I appreciate you looking into this!
It looks like I have some work to do. Thanks again!

Bjørn P. Brox On your own profile you is listed with a family tree of 6 and 23 added profiles, so we need to find a way to connect them.
However, - if you look at the tree of these "missing" profiles observe that the CS cleanup left a lot of ghost profiles we need help from Geni staff too clean up in. I will contact them.

Anne Tubinis Audette Continued message between Geni on FB:
Their response: Under normal circumstances, a user has a couple of options if they decide to leave the site and close their account: 1) They may donate the profiles they manage to the Geni community. 2) They may transfer the profiles they manage to another user. 3) If they were the only claimed account in the tree, meaning that no other users were also connected to it, they will have the option delete their tree. However, in this specific instance, the user issued a GDPR takedown request when he decided to leave. GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, is a data protection and privacy regulation in the European Union. In compliance with EU law, we will permanently remove all data and personal information added by a person if they submit a GDPR takedown request. This was a rare case that affected other parts of the tree that had interconnected with these profiles. We greatly appreciate your understanding for this unfortunate circumstance.
My question: Thanks again for your response. Other than our messaging, where might I find the three options for members closing their Geni account on your website?
Their response: You can find them on the Close Account settings page:
https://www.geni.com/account_settings/close_account
Note the third option appears if you are the only person in your tree.*****************************
This seems to wrap things up!

Bjørn P. Brox Well, but they cannot deny you adding your own profiles again as I initially suggested. As long as you don't know who this was you will probably touch into his/hers family again, but that will be a new issue and you have to respond if you come to that point, but I doubt they can deny adding your own ancestors. Just avoid adding descendants into others living family.

Anne Tubinis Audette Hi, Bjorn,
The person that did this was very generous with his time, helping hundreds of people. He is not a relative and lives in another country.
He used the word "vandalism", citing Geni at fault. Reading between the lines, he was devastated, requesting that all his entered profiles be removed as he closed his account. Thankfully, much of his work I have screen shots of, so, with time, I should be able to re-enter his findings.
I really appreciate your attention to my posts. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
