After changing Manager of the profile from the profile, the manage of profile does not change

I want to add another person to manager of the profile, but after i change it in the profile page (the task that should be much easier to perform), nothing changes.

  You type in the name you want to add as manager.  A request goes out to that person -- nothing changes until and unless they accept the request.
