Why is do you enter dates MM DD YYYY when other genealogy trees use DD MMM YYYY. Have you considered changing this to make dates consistent. What will happen if I upload a GEDCOM file where the date sequence differs from the order on Geni?

Jeff, Geni Curator You can enter dates in any number of formats on Geni, to include DD MMM YYYY. That format, like others, is easily recognizable due to the "MMM" format "Jan". But Geni must know your default between DD MM YYYY and MM DD YYYY because they're indistinguishable programmatically if the day is less then 13. You can set your preference here: https://www.geni.com/account_settings/localization
As for GEDCOM, Geni, like other sites that do a shared tree, stopped allowing uploads because the duplicates created way more work then they were worth. There are plans for a smart GEDCOM upload that could try and determine duplicates before they're created, but I'm not sure what the timeline would be. Often it doesn't take long before reaching the world tree, but the SmartCopy tool can help if you're trying to port your data from one online tree to another. https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783

Arlo James Barnes It should be noted that zero-padded YYYY-MM-DD is the ISO standard.
