Carol, Jonathan is a Curator, who has been appointed by Geni management to build and improve the World Family Tree, merge duplicates, and assist users. You can find out more about curators on the Geni wiki: http://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Curators I apologize if the merge feels like an intrusion. If you believe the merge is in error (different persons/families), let me know and we can undo the merge or otherwise correct the mistake. I'll also let Jon know of your concern so that he can reach out to you.
Dear Geni Curator Team: Our privacy is very important and I feel very strongly that this has been violated. I am requesting that you put a note on the home page of Geni letting all of us users know that you are now using Curators to update our profiles. There should be some kind of checkbox where we the users can decide if we want your curators to update our profiles or not. You should be requesting our permission before giving a curator permission to update our profiles. Jonathan Wolfson said he is using Myheritage and family search to update our profiles. These sites are not accurate. The only ones who have accurate information are the family members who are updating their family tree.
Shari, sorry if Jonathan made changes that were not accurate or desired. Geni does disclose in their privacy policy that Curators have access to private profiles: https://www.geni.com/company/privacy We try to be respectful and keep family concerns in mind when maintaining the world tree. It is our goal, as expect yours as well, to have a complete and accurate tree, so Jonathan should be very receptive to helping preserve and document what is correct. With good collaboration, he should be an asset in your tree, not a problem.
