I adopted my wife's daughter and I tried to us the biological for the donor that was the father and my wife is biological parent. I am adoptive and when I duplicate my wife in a adoptive pairing with me, the only way I could be me as adoptive, my relationship to my daughter shows step-daughter. When I adopted her she became my adoptive daughter and I became listed on her birth certificate. I thought step relationship was without adoption? How do I clean this up. I want her DNA and mine to not be linked as a biologically parent, even though we are distantly related as Ashkenazi.

Jeff, Geni Curator Edit your daughter's profile and choose the relationship tab. Set your parent relationship to Adoptive and the other as Biological. Currently, it looks like you're listed as the Biological parent.

Max Gerald Heffler Nope. When I bring up her profile I have the UNKNOWNDONOR and my wife as biological and me and my wife as adoptive. In my profile she is listed as adoptive. In her profile it show our relationship as step

Jeff, Geni Curator Also, as far as I know, the DNA used here would not propagate between father and daughter even if biological. mt-DNA is propagated through the mother. y-DNA is only male lines.

Jeff, Geni Curator Oh, Autosomal DNA - hmmm, that looks like a bug.

Max Gerald Heffler Changing her to adoptive did break the DNA link as desired. I just wish the relationship showed adoptive when I bring up her profile:
When I bring up her profile it shows: Julie Goren Heffler is your stepdaughter:
An adoptive father is your legal guardian and is your father. A step father is a man who marries your mother. He does not have to adopt you and cannot unless your biological father agrees to give up his rights as a parent.

Jeff, Geni Curator You're correct and, to my knowledge, it should break that connection. I've reported it to Geni developers.

Max Gerald Heffler That is what I had done at the beginning of the thread, which fixed the DNA connections but still shows the relationship as "step-daughter" when I view her profile.
