Sheila Anne de-Lisle Mulvey Wood I have requested a merge to make my tree factualy correct.

John P. L. Halonen I have been told that tree records are not allowed to use DNA results as they need written records to support the results.
If this is true, why does Geni indicate that one should get DNA testing to establish ancestry.
To me that seems to be incorrect, as DNA information should be primary with written records proving details only. And that is only if available and verified to support DNA results.
John P. L. HalonenToday at 5:26 PMFacts as you indicated can be disputed also.
DNA is the only way that proves relationships. Somehow Geni must allow the linkage via DNA results to have validity, or else it is no use for them to publish their DNA requests to establish your past relatives. They are a genealogy company that uses individuals DNA to establish past relationships. Geni has created a problem if they are saying one thing when doing testing and not allowing it on their Genealogy site or having others say it is not so.Mika Olavi HalonenToday at 4:21 PMI do not see any long standing dispute in here. You cannot just do any linking between persons on basis of DNA test results. DNA test results tell only that for example these two families are related to each others. It doesn't say who is for example Esko Halonen's (born1614) father. It might give you hint about it but nothing else. You need written evidence to link persons. This works similarly in Canadian and Finnish genealogy. That's why some of those profiles are marked as Master Profiles. You have to give facts before you are allowed to do any linking.
John P. L. HalonenToday at 2:36 PMIt seems that I became embroiled in a long standing dispute as to the Esko relationship with Paavoli and different factions of Halonen families.
Since my tree is a separate issue I have decided that DNA will be my guiding principle since that has proven to be our Canadian hierarchy no matter what written records may say. Even court approved death sentences have been voided by DNA results. People have known to be incorrect in their opinions or acts.Signing off, John
Veikko Henrikki Halonen5/31/2018 at 3:06 PMHi again,
Thanks Mika for pointing out question about the names and birth years of the earliest know ancestors of my closest Y-DNA matches. I checked their family trees (in FTDNA) and found my mistake: I should have written Paavali Halonen instead of Paavo Paavalinpoika Halonen. And all these four matches have Olli Paavalinpoika Halonen and his son Tuomas (b. ca. 1619) in their father line. I don't know where the discrepancies of birth years of Paavali and Olli come from.Veikko
