Permission problems with source document quotations

Steps to reproduce:

  1. User A adds a Geni source document for a profile and checks some of the profile that the document supports. He does not add any note/quotation while checking those boxes. The source document is not added to any project.
  2. User B (me), who is a collaborator of User A, navigates to the Geni source document created in step 1 with the intention of adding notes to the data fields checked also in step 1. Normally this would require first unchecking the data field, but Geni reports that the User B does not have permission to do that. That is unexpected, as they are collaborators.
  3. User B tries to add the document to a Geni project he is collaborating in. This, surprisingly,  succeeds as it should IMO.
  4. User B tries again to add notes for the data fields the same way as in Step 2. This time adding the notes succeeds. However, those data field references that he updated, are now duplicated in the Sources tab of profile. The duplicated data field references can be removed by comparing the order of data field references and the notes next to them and clicking the cross 'x' next to duplicate fields without note.

Observations:

  • Permissions for modifying source quotations and adding the source to a project are not consistent. I would expect collaborator to be able to do both.
  • Duplicated data field references in case another user adds (or updates?) notes associated with them.
