The gedcom importer accepts identical profiles, this should not be allowed. I have been merging about 50 identical profiles imported by Gedcom import tool today and yesterday.
It is not beneficial for no one, not for the person who imports or those who merge profiles that are exactly the same.
It is waste of time. Please not not let it happen, it is a bug.

This profile has first importer from Geni to MH and them imported back to Geni. Totally identical. This person who imports these double profiles does not merge the double profiles, and does not understand even if notifieds, someone else has to do it.. I hope you have a solution for this.

Thank you for providing a specific example. We have forwarded this to our engineers to investigate further.
I totally agree with Riitta. Recently lots of profiles have been created with Gedcom import, resulting in huge amount of duplicate profiles with faulty data.
My proposal is that either the Gedcom import is totally removed, at least for unexperienced users, or import is restricted so that one user can import only a very limited amount of profiles. Also the controls of the import should be improved a lot in order to prevent duplicates. At the moment we are consuming lots of time and effort in fixing the data that has been destroyed by Gedcom imports.
I believe Geni wants to develop its services. Providing a tool like current Gedcom import and letting anyone do lots of harm with it is not the way to develop. Please, please, please take immediate actions to stop this.

It is unacceptable that the Gedcom Import went all the way to 1595 and a Master Profile without stopping because of duplicates. How is it possible that the duplicates were not found even though the source of the Gedcom data was originally Geni itself?
