My history and my problem:
When I started doing genealogy in 2016 I was using geni.com from day one, the free version. I used it to build my database, because I had no software on my computer.
I then discovered a desktop program that I begun to use and stopped using geni. Over the years I built a large database with at this date 1269 persons.
At this point I discover a cool feature in geni I wanna try, and get a PRO-membership. I upload my GEDCOM file and obviously will have to merge a lot of duplicate profiles. I expect this behavior and gets to work.
When I am finally done I begun playing around with the new tree. Being merged with other users data I find a lot of new connections. I check out one suggested ancestor, the parents of one of my ancestors, and manage to verify this data was correct. I update my database, and decide to upload the new GEDCOM to geni.com.
Here is what I WANTED to do: Export a GEDCOM containing just the new entries to my personal database, and one person in that group already in the geni.com network. This method would give me ONE duplicate that I would have to verify and merge. No big problem.
Here is what geni.com told me to do: Upload the entire GEDCOM again. It would NOT create duplicates of the persons in my original upload.
Here is what geni.com did: Create duplicates of everyone in my upload. Which means I will now have to merge every one of my 1269 persons -AGAIN- and then go over data conflicts on everyone of the 1269 persons -AGAIN.
Either geni.com staff must warn users this **** will happen so that they shall only ever upload their GEDCOM once, or they will have to fix stuff so that you can upload somehow without having to merge everything in your database TWICE every time you upload a GEDCOM.
Obviously, I will NEVER upload a GEDCOM to this site again. And when my free subscription period of 2 weeks run out, I will NOT become a paying member.
