I have several duplicates and can't merge them as some of the duplicates are people appearing on other family trees. How should I resolve this as several people are currently appearing in different places on the same tree.

Khalifa Jamaluddin if these people are related to other people in your tree in multiple ways they will appear in multiple places. it's a limitation of the software.
is there a small green circle appearing in the bottom right corner of the name box? if there is, then you've already merged the profiles. it'll say x2 in the green circle if the person is related to two people in separate branches of your tree and clicking the circle will move your view to wherever else they're showing up. if there's 3 places they show up, it'll say x3, and so on. the circle shows that the name is appearing in multiple places but it's the same person.

Steve Moran There are no green circles appearing and the name appears twice under the same parents – as though they had two children with identical names and dates of birth

Khalifa Jamaluddin okay, then you need to click "more" in the name box for either of the parents, and select "resolve duplicates" from the menu. then drag the duplicates on top of each other in the popup window, and select "merge duplicates"...
there is also the option of clicking "more" in the name box for one of the duplicates, selecting "move this person", and dragging the name box that appears in the little window on the right, onto the other duplicate, then selecting "it's the same person" from the menu. though i'm not sure this will work as intended...
