Not Getting Good yDNA Informtation

I think it's great that yDNA and mtDNA are being propagated all over GENI. There is one suggestion that I think would make things even better. Here is the situation: supposing I am looking at a pretty distant profile from the 1600s. Let me give an example: supposing I am studying https://www.geni.com/people/Eliezer-Charlap/6000000014618634004 and would like to find out more about his yDNA haplogroup. I use the DNA tab to ask for possible descendants and I see a list of 4 6-8 grandchildren possibilities. However, if I go down the tree six generations to https://www.geni.com/people/Shimon-Charlap/6000000014484151852 I see that Simon has the yDNA logo and the haplogroup E-M34. So the problem here is that the system is not telling me that it already has a yDNA hg result for this patriline when I ask, and instead is sending me off to find these 6-8x grandchildren. Can we do something about this? Hopefully, Adam Cherson

  Hello Adam, 

  I don't know if someone already addressed your issue or not but when I do an ancestor report it does not go to Eliezer Charlap. To see what I am talking about go to the profile of choice and click on the actions button to select ancestor report. To show the MTDNA or YDNA  badge I think it has to be a proven line or no errors. Maybe there is some sort of error in that branch of the tree. Hope this helps.

  I don't know why but it was not showing for me yesterday. Sorry. Now that I think about it I don't think I have ever seen any profile that was before the year 1600 that had the Haplo Group for  YDNA or MTDNA Badge on it. Eliezer was born before 1600. But I have put in an inquiry to be sure that is the case. :) This is the first time I think anyone has ever asked this question and it is a good question so thank you. As soon as I find out I will let you know. Thank you for your patience.

  Ok Adam this is the answer for your issue. 

  On Geni, Y-DNA only gets distributed 10 generations and 10 down. Y-DNA mutates at various lengths of generations depending on where in the DNA code. There are parts that mutate and will change the Halogroup in only a couple generations. Since we don't have enough data to predict the mutation events 10 generations is a good limit for now.
