Unknown Changes occurring to Data I am working on

I am concerned there may be a bug in the system, especially after reading some of the other posts here.

The last few times I have signed in, there has been a number indicating that there is a message waiting for me (I have been expecting some messages) , but when I click on it, the number disappears and reverts to zero. I not sure why this would happen.

Also, today I went away from the computer for dinner, and when I came back to my screen, there was a message asking me to confirm that I wanted to continue changing over from English to French. I did not initiate any such request.

I also support all the users who are worried about the Smart Matches that are flooding profiles on Geni now. Many family trees on MyHeritage, Wikitree, ancestry.com, and other genealogy websites contain erroneous information (as an example: two very bare trees on MyHeritage were created by a nephew and a first cousin once removed of mine; they are both young people who don't have complete information on the older generations and even when asked to correct what is there -  by a blood relative -  they haven't changed it to make things right, and I think they are not really active in their trees anymore). So when one has worked hard to develop an accurate tree on Geni, it is frustrating and disappointing to see so many merge prompts. It is even worse when curators and other users who are not even related to me or my ancestors proceed to change data in profiles and/or do merges without even contacting the manager(s) of the profile, as I( understand) is supposed to happen per Geni guidelines. Or, another user will make himself or herself a co-manager of a profile so that he/she can make changes without consulting the original 'owner' of the tree. It's very time-consuming to have to correct the mistakes of others, especially if the original tree data was correct.  Geni tells subscribers, on joining, that their family tree remains their property, yet it allows these things to happen .........?
