Why am I not getting any notice that there are profile merges that I can approve? I will randomly find one with the blue cross on the family tree. But, would have never known it was there if I was just cruising thru the tree.

Job Waterreus Please check https://www.geni.com/requests to see if any user asked you to approve merges
Use https://www.geni.com/list/matches?filter=tree_matches to look at possible matches for the selected group
(or use https://www.geni.com/list/matches?order=&direction=&filter=tree_matches&collection=managed to find possible matches for the profiles you manage)
You should also check https://www.geni.com/account_settings/notifications to see when you get a notification from Geni.

Jeff Keith Prevéy Good morning and thank you for the quick response. I have done all of the things you suggested. Maybe I am confused about something. More than once I have come across a profile in the tree that has the blue cross icon in the lower left corner. By clicking on it means I agree with the merge request. Is that not correct? Or and I missing something? Part of my concerns are how many of these blue cross profiles are waiting for my approval on the tree. By not knowing they are there, the profile merge may sit for months. I have merge requests that are 2 years old and I am still waiting.
Thanks again, Jeff

Job Waterreus This blue symbol is an indication that at least one user thinks the profiles are the same but non of those users were able to do the merge (mostly because at least one of the profiles is private or in a stand-alone tree and they do not manage that profile).
So you can see this icon also on profiles you do not manage. Agreeing on such a merge (where you are not a manager) will add you to the list of users that think the profiles are the same, but it won't do the merge unless a manager (or a collaborator of such a manager) of that profile accepts the merge request.
If you are a manager and the other profile is private a manager from the other profile will also have to approve the merge before the profiles are merged.
If you manage a profile where another user thinks there is a merge you should get a request in https://www.geni.com/requests and if you enabled the message for it also an email.
If you think you missed a request check https://www.geni.com/list/matches?order=&direction=&filter=tree_matches&collection=managed to see if there are possible matches that Geni found that you could be completed. Be sure that possible matches Geni found are really for the same person before approving them (Geni seems to only checks if a least one of the given names and the last name are the same and if the period of living for the profiles overlap and does not seem to look at relations)
If you merged a profile where non of the managers are active anymore the merge will not be done. You can go to the profile page of the managers and use the Action menu to report them as inactive. Geni will then try to find an extra (active) manager for the private profiles managed by the inactive user.
If the profile has a birth date more than 150 years ago, you can ask a curator to make it public (so you can do the merge). Use https://www.geni.com/discussions/217559 or https://www.geni.com/discussions/245980 to ask a curator for help.
