"The in-law relationship search is in progress."
That's way too familiar of an announcement. Prevents from seeing the blood relative path while trying to find sometimes non-existent in-law relationship. Also crashes the whole site or gives just a blank screen for minutes unless you refresh the page.
In the same token, often there are lots of paths to the sama ancestor great-.great auntie or uncle.
You could provide paths by relationship ranking: first direct ancestors, then aunties / uncles / cousins, no matter how many generations it takes plus give them all, via both one's mother and father.

Geni Support Team Hi Urpo, we search for both the closest blood relationship path and the closest in-law relationship path between profiles. If you are receiving an error while trying to view a path, then please provide the link to the profile so we can investigate further.

Urpo Tapani Huovinen Yes, yes, that's well known. And that was not the point (except that you could make the in-law relationship search optional.).
Takes a lot time to fetch possibly unwanted in-law relationship. Your Db does not necessarily crash, but the screen just goes white, and you at least have to try and refresh the page.
The point was evaluating the quality of the relationship, more accurate evaluating and printing rather the direct ancestry first, then the others.
Instead of prioritizing the length of the relationship path, it would be better to prioritize the *quality* of said relationship, since many times, at least for me, an uncle / auntie may appear first, even though the same person is also a direct ancestor. The path just happens to be a generation or two longer than the one leading to the aunts and uncles.
So, in those cases, it would be nice to fetch the closest ancestry first, then the other relationships.
For example:
Saint Olaf II, King of Norway – I'm told by your database – is clearly also my direct ancestor, 30th great grandfather since his son Magnus I Olavsson «the Good» den Gode is my 29th great grandfather and his father Harald Grenske is my 31st great grandfather according the database of your very own.
Geni - Magnus «the Good» den Gode Olavsson (c.1024-1047)- Skibby, Århus
Geni - Harald Grenske (c.950-995)
Yet, the result while looking superficially show this:
"Saint Olaf II, King of Norway is your 28th great uncle."
Geni - Olav Haraldsson (c.995-1030)
As you can see, the path just is a bit shorter than the path to the direct ancestry.
That's what I was suggesting (in vain, I know): give the direct ancestors before anything else.
And yes, I know, these are controversial lineages. The point: those paths are not nearly the only or longest ones, I just wanted to use an example of some known people outside Finland.
