Trying to add a foster son as a single parent, while respecting his bio parents as a couple

I fostered one of my sons, and maintain that relationship with him without a partner.

Meanwhile, I have known his bio mom for years, and recently he and I have established a relationship with his bio dad.

What I can't seem to do is to figure out, whether from managing his profile or mine, how to add either myself as a foster parent of his (I can create a new Charles Sheinin record, but can't link it to me), or how to identify him as a foster son WITHOUT a partner (and also, linking it to his new record that I created).

Part of the issue is that I would expect email address to be a potential unique identifier the system might use to prompt for a duplicate record/merge notice. Alternatively, that perhaps I could specify one of us by the unique identifiers available in the URLs.

Alas, I am stuck, not sure if this is a bug or a missing feature, or simply something that requires administrative intervention.

Please help?

  Hi Charles,

  From your description, it sounds like you may have already added your foster son to the tree along with a duplicate of yourself. If that is the case, then you can simply merge your duplicate profiles together. There are a couple of ways you can do this:

  You can use the "Move Profile" feature in the tree to drag and drop duplicates on top of each other. Click on your node to reveal the side panel and select "More." Then click "Move Profile." This will place the node in the "Map These People" tray at the right of the tree. Next, go to the duplicate profile you created and view the tree. Drag and drop the node from the tray on top of the duplicate node in the tree and select "This person is the same." You will be taken to the merge compare page where you can complete the merge.

  The second option would be to manually merge duplicates from the profile page by using the "Merge This Profile" feature under the "Actions" button.
