Adding another profile manager to abandoned trees

2. Generally, reporting a tree as abandoned adds an active manager to all the profiles managed by the inactive manager.  However, it has been found in some cases that have been reported in public discussions that the abandoned tree function did not add an active manager to all the inactive user's profiles.  This seems to be a bug

  GENI does not appear to be adding the reassigned profile manager to "public" profiles.  (I cannot tell if it is reassigning "private" profiles.

  This causes the following issues for other users who interact with those "public' profiles.

  • data conflicts cannot be fixed as often they require the inactive Profile manager's approval (not the reassigned profile manager or other profile managers on the account)
  • messages to the profile managers go to the inactive profile manager and not to the reassigned profile manager
  • "public" profiles cannot be added to Projects as it requires the inactive Profile Manager's approval
  • Profile managers who are showing as inactive due to be being "deceased" are still getting messages about a profile - this could be extremely distressing to their families.

  Separately there is no way to tell if a profile manager is inactive ("Abandoned" by GENI's definition) from the "Public" profile.   A "public' profile could have multiple profile managers, all of whom are inactive. To identify, a user needs to open each managers profile and see if the "Abandoned Tree" option is showing (and hope that someone has already selected it in the last 7 days)

  The "Abandoned Tree" menu selection reappears as an option again, 7 days after it is selected.  There appears to be no purpose to this as once the option has already been selected, all the profiles should have already been transferred to the new profile manager  and since they are inactive they haven't been able to create any more records that need to be reassigned (or they would no longer be inactive).

  These conflicts and requests to inactive profile managers will sit in pending forever - which causes frustration to the users trying to update the GENI World Tree.  I have seen cases where people recreate the profiles which leaves duplicates in the tree.

  If it is deliberate decision that "public" profiles are not going to be reassigned to a new profile manager - the message should be changed from "Reassigning unclaimed profiles to xxxx" to "Reassigning unclaimed private profiles to xxxx" when the "Abandoned Trees" icon is pressed. And the help menu should be updated to advise what a user needs to do in order for the "public" profile to be updated.

  The help menu should also be updated to advise what a user can do if the message is "unable to find a replacement manager".
