Unmerge?

Ok I recently merged accounts with someone that is related to my uncles wife.

Since then the tree that I set up has had nothing but issues such as my siblings are my half siblings and step siblings, apparently my mum is dead, names have vanished and I am now seeing links to people unrelated to me and quite honestly I'm ready for deleting my account and setting up a tree elsewhere. The fact that anyone merged to the person I merged with now seems to be able to make changes to mine is just ridiculous! I would really like to find a way to delete the merge if anyone can help.

 

I have removed the duplicate parents as recommended in a forum thread but nothing appears to have changed.

If it cant be unmerged would deleting my account delete my tree and therefore sever the merge?

  Joseph, there is no way to undo a merge and closing your account would have no effect.  I've looked at your tree and there were a lot of unresolved conflicts (to resolve the duplicates and merge them).  So, I resolved all the duplicates and conflicts.  It should look much better now and back to normal.   Any conflicts between data can be seen in the actions menu "Resolve Conflicts" (if there are any) or in your merge center (http://www.geni.com/list/data_conflicts?collection=relatives).   If you have any additional issues with it, just send me a message and I'll try to help.  Jeff Gentes

  Well merging mine has voided any usefulness of Geni as the person I merged it with has so many errors. Why can I not unmerge it?

  not knowing what merging would do when i was married I merged my new husbands family tree with mine and cannot "un-merge" so now my family refuses to use Geni and insist I use another Wish I could undo this merge - not my sweet husband!

  Carol, why would your family refuse to use it?  In-law permissions are fairly restrictive and can be set by the user to be even more so.  http://www.geni.com/account_settings/family

  The purpose of Geni is a single world tree. http://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree/learn-more  You've done exactly what we want users to do.  If a profile is a duplicate, then merge it.  We want to know how we're all connected.  If the concern is privacy or notifications, it shouldn't be.

  Have the same problem as Joe. People i don't know is adding stuff to the tree - and it has become so big that I don't feel like I have controle over my own tree anymore. I want to undo the merging. It was such a big mistake.

  I have the same problem as Joseph, accidentally merged my 8th g grandfather with myself and can't seem to fix it. Been going crazy trying and don't know what to do

  I was added to a tree as my dad's sister, not his daughter. I merged the profiles, thinking I could unmerge it easily, separating me from my aunt. Now it's a mess. Can you help?

  I would also love to unmerge my uncle's second family -- we are now getting notifications about people who we don't really know. Can I at least turn off notifications for certain branches of the tree?

  Hello, I merged my family tree and it has more information then I want. On my tree, Tzinka Ruchel Belitz Friedman apparently had lots of siblings but I only want her. Can a curater please delete her siblings and their children etc. for me? Thanks!
