My current tree can be seen by others. I want to change this. I want to be the only person that can see my tree. How can I do this?

Jeff, Geni Curator As much as I love Geni, I'd suggest that you go to MyHeritage. Geni is not the site for you if this is your goal. Living and close family profiles are private, but the goal of Geni are public deceased ancestors that are connected to the world family tree. It is not designed for private isolated trees and I think you'll be disappointed if you go into this thinking otherwise.

Renee Rosenberg How do I make part of my tree private

Renee Rosenberg Someone is adding information to my tree. I do not know this person. How can I limit who can see my tree

Jeff, Geni Curator Renee, perhaps you don't understand what Geni is.. Geni is a shared collaborative tree. The question is if the information is accurate. If you don't know the person, get to know them. I wouldn't think of it as "my" tree. You're a manager of a branch in a tree. You don't lock other family members that might share those branches out, you invite them in. If this is not something that interests you, then I'd suggest you would be happier on a site like MyHeritage that silos everyones trees and you are in complete control.

Richard Rick Branch Peterson I'm now getting offers from other Genealogy sites to join their site using my own genealogy data and pictures stolen wholesale from GENI. I too thought I could be sole manager and controller of what could and could not be made public - especially pictures and personal notes. MyHeritage is even stealing my data and trying to bait me with it! This is NOT RIGHT. I have been a member for almost 10 years and to think GENI allows folks to steal my family pictures and personal data is horrid.
I get the "whole world tree" thing and I am part of other sites that share a similar goal, but I should be consulted and given permission before someone steals pictures and personal data from my tree. Also, other affiliates of GENI should NOT ALLOW use of my personal tree pictures and data to be used in advertising and outbound subscriber solicitation by affiliates or anyone one else!!!
Feel very abused by GENI, its policies and it's lack of protection of personal data.I should be able to declare my whole tree - that I manage and make entries into - to be private and to allow others to see parts in a search result but then allow them to ask me for info and access. Other services do this to great effect and protection of its customers.
I will be shouting this far and wide and actively warn folks and other bulletin boards that GENI is not to be trusted with their personal family information and gallery/photo records. MyHeritage.com is also now guitly by association since they are abusing my data/photos for commercial gain/customer acquisition.

Geni Support Team Hi Richard,
Geni was acquired by MyHeritage in 2012.
