Adding photo sometimes automatically sets date

This is an odd bug and I only noticed it starting the past couple of weeks.   However, sometimes when I add a photo, it sets the 'photo date' as something like March 1, 2009 or April 1, 2009  (those seem to be the most common.)    Obviously, if I catch it, I can manually edit it to BLANK, *save*, and then it's gone; however, it's worrisome and I'm afraid I'm going to miss one.

 

Please note that I'm not referring to the 'upload date', I'm talking about the 'photo date' (that you're supposed to set manually.)

 

Is it possible that the geni system is automatically detecting the date that the photo was created based on some sort of data marker in the file?  If so, that would be bad since files are often created when old photos are scanned.

  Hi Andy - we were only thinking that using any data attached to the photo would be helpful, but now we've realized that most of our the photos uploaded to our site are going to have the date the photo was scanned or digitized rather than the actual photo date attached. We're going to change this feature so that we ignore photo date.

  Hi Andy - Can you point me at an example of a scanned photo that you've uploaded to Geni? We just want to check the data that's attached to scanned photos as opposed to the data attached to photos from a digital camera to see if we can tell the difference.

  Hi Andy - We were able to differentiate between scanned photos and photos that were taken with a digital camera. If the photo is scanned, we are not automatically setting the date.
