I just discovered the hard way that news updates are deceptively delayed. I started a discussion and didn't see a corresponding system-generated news update on it. So I manually tried to add the news entry and link to the discussion instead. I mentioned "deceptively" delayed because: when I submitted the news update, it showed up on my profile... and then disappeared after a moment. I refreshed the page and logged in with a siblings ID also to verify... and found no trace of the new update! As a result, I entered the news update a couple of more times, only to see a repeat of the same bug.
To my utter dismay, I noticed about 22 minutes later that ALL of those news updates appeared including both the system-generated one and my manually entered ones... effectively spamming my unsuspecting network! GRRRRRRRRR!!!
So lesson learned the hard way: Geni.com posts news updates about 15-20 mins later. Don't be fooled by the news update that appears in your profile for a while and then disappears... only to return several minutes later!!
